March 2008 Newsletter

March Book Madness

A special sale of foreign language textbooks and tools will take place in our Social Room each Friday in March. Take advantage of the great prices; some include CDs or tapes.  Go shopping and plan ahead for your summer practice.

Patricia Reed will be on hand in the Social Room to assist with transactions (except during her 9-10 a.m. class).  Judy Pearlstein, textbook chair, will be available from 9-10.

Take Note of Spring Break

PLEASE NOTE:  There will be no classes held on March 21.  This is our annual Spring break.

Annual Business Meeting

Our Annual Business Meeting will be held on Friday, April 18 at 11 a.m. We hope you plan to attend this meeting as important business will take place. We will elect new officers for the year ahead.  Plus, we will thank teachers and outgoing board members for their contributions to La Causerie.

The meeting will be held at 11 a.m. followed by our Spring Fête at noon.  Mark your calendar, update your Livret, (as this date has changed), and start planning the tasty treat you will bring to the party.

Spanish Program Coming Up

On Friday, March 14, Gina Thompson will speak (in Spanish) about Panama, her native country.

We can really use some hook-ups for noon programs. If you know someone who speaks one of our languages, just share their name and contact information with one of the program chairs. They are listed at the end of the newsletter.

Tale of the shrinking snacks

Snack donations tend to taper off toward the end of the year.  But many members indicate that the appreciate having them available to get us all through our Friday morning studies.

Can you bring something—even if you’ve already done it once or twice? Sign up to bring treats on the list in the Social Room—or go  crazy and just show up with some.  You don’t have to feed the entire school—three or four other members will contribute, too.  And it doesn’t have to be homemade.   If you want, bring a snack that has a shelf life (like biscotti or tinned popcorn) and give it to Patricia to put out as needed.

Have a facilities issue?

Tell a board member, not someone who works at the church.  We want to keep our landlords happy and you can help by funneling La Causerie issues, suggestions and requests through Inez or another board member (see list below).
