French Program
On Friday, March 6th, our speaker will be Helene Corneau-Cohen, a native French speaker from Montreal, Canada. Helen will speak in French about the music of Carla Bruni, wife of Nicolas Sarkozy, President of France.
Helene has had an extensive career in the fashion industry, having worked for a number of top international designers and companies, including Jean-Claude Poitras and Lise Spenard in Montreal, The Loft Design By in Paris, Club Monaco in Toronto, Esprit de Corps in Hong Kong, and Joe Boxer, Blue Marlin, and Roots in San Francisco. She received her MasterÕs degree in design from ESMOD in Paris.
Spring Break Ahead!
Please take note that there will be no classes held on Friday, March 20th, as this is our annual Spring Break.
Annual Business Meeting and Spring Fte
The Annual Business Meeting will be held on Friday, April 24th at noon. We will elect new officers for the next year, acknowledge our teachers, and welcome new board members. The meeting will be followed by our Spring Fte at 1:00 pm. The church Fellowship Hall is being renovated and we may be among the first to use this new space. WeÕll also have the annual book sale, where you can pass on some of your foreign language books to fellow members. Look for details on both our Spring Fte and the annual book sale in your April newsletter.
LCF Instructor Makes News!
Our own instructor Patricia Siqueiros was mentioned (and pictured) in a Kansas City Star article on February 27. You should be able to find the article free online here until Friday:
http://www.kansascity.com/115/story/1059474.html.
The story is about an informal group of Spanish women who meet weekly at the Starbucks at 4141 Main to help each other become more fluent in English. Known as Bilingual Coffee, or Caf Bilingue, the sessions allow women to speak for 45 minutes in English and 45 minutes in Spanish. Some English speakers who are learning Spanish also attend this group. Ask Patricia if you want more information.
Recruiting New Board Members
We are seeking a
member to step forward to become next yearÕs Assistant Secretary on the
board. The person in this position handles publicity (mainly a July/August
role) and writes the monthly newsletter. The monthly newsletter is not a
huge job as most of our activities are fairly repetitive (meaning the author
begins with last yearÕs issue and adds from there). Plus, the board and program
people submit much of the content.
If you would like to assume this role on our board of directors (which meets around four times a year), please tell Dalene Bradford or any of the board members listed below.
Snow Policy
La Causerie Franaise follows the Shawnee Mission School District practice on snowy or icy days. If the Shawnee Mission District closes its schools due to bad weather, La Causerie will also be closed. In case of inclement weather, please listen to the list of school closings on television and radio or check the DistrictÕs website: www.smsd.org
