January 2010 Newsletter
We looking forward to seeing everyone this Friday, January 8th, when classes resume after our long vacation. Check the wiki for your homework assignment.
Also, we will all enjoy any remaining holiday treats you can bring to the Social Room, whether you have signed up, or not.
Upcoming Noon Programs
French Program on Friday, January 8th at noon: Jean-Pierre Bacherot, present at the founding and long-time waiter at Le Fou Frog and man of many interests, will make a presentation in French on Friday, January 8th at noon in the Calvin Center. He will talk about "Table Manners of French Restaurants."
The Calvin Center is in the basement at the bottom of the stairs nearest the west door (the one you enter from the parking lot), where Doug Eikerman’s and Kathryn Davis’ classes are held. Sorry, there is no elevator to this space.
Spanish Program on Friday, January 22th at noon: Marina Vildoso, native of Bolivia, will tell us in SPANISH about Bolivia, today, and the changes she has seen in her native land.
Do you have ideas for other cultural programs? Tell one of our board members and we’ll help get it started.
We had a most enjoyable holiday party on December 18th. Many thanks to our social chairs, Carol Cowden and Jeff Piehler, for all their work. Special, this year, more than 50 members attended and visited centers where we sampled food and learned how the holidays are celebrated in the countries where our languages are spoken. We also enjoyed holiday music in all three languages.
Because of the generosity of our members, each of our teachers received a $100 bonus along with a gift bag full of Kansas City treats. Our staff person, Amanda, also received a $100 bonus. Thanks to all of you who contributed to the holiday bonus fund.

Have a suggestion?
We are committed to making your learning experience positive and successful. If you have a suggestion for an instructor, speak up and tell them. If you have a general idea or concern, tell a board member.
If you’re the shy type, there is a Suggestion Box at the top of the stairs, in the hallway where you pick up a nametag each week. Write down your thoughts and we’ll get the information to the right person.
