Happy New Year/Classes Resume
We are looking forward to seeing everyone this Friday, January 4, when classes resume after our winter break. Some of you may have been industrious and kept up with your studies, but just in case you had other things to do, you may want to check Wiki for your homework assignment prior to Friday! http://lacauserie.wikispaces.com/

 Nelson Tour January 9, 2013

Please pass the word to former members, associate members, and current members and friends of La Causerie about our guided tour of Spanish Art, including the Picasso exhibit, at the Nelson on Wednesday, January 9, 2013. Sharon Barb-O'Connor made arrangements with the Nelson for this docent guided tour beginning at 11am.  We will meet at the Visitor's Service Desk in the Bloch Building lobby. There is no charge for the tour but there is a $5.00 parking fee for those who are not members of Friends of Art.

Some may want to remain for lunch in the Rozelle Court and visit with members once the tour is completed.  (Lunch on your own)

If you plan to attend please contact Sharon Barb-O'Connor @ barbocon@aol.com or call 816-444-2823 by January 4.   We need an estimate of participants so the Nelson can arrange the necessary number of docents and reserve some tables for lunch.

 La Causerie Centennial!

Isn’t it amazing, but our wonderful language school is 100 years old this year.  La Causerie Française, which translates to “French Chat," was founded in 1913 by a group of women who wanted to practice speaking French.  The board is planning a variety of activities to be held throughout the year to recognize this milestone.  Please join in the first of these events on Friday, January 11, 2013, at approximately 10:30 for a group photo and some birthday cake.  The location for these activities will be posted on the front door as you arrive. We encourage all former members, associate members, and current students to join in this and all activities offered throughout the year.   Watch for more events throughout the year.

 Holiday Party

Thanks to all who helped organize our very enjoyable holiday party on December 14, and thank you to all who brought the delicious food. We had a very good turnout and all seemed to enjoy the opportunity to visit with friends and classmates.

Because of the generosity of our members, each of our teachers and Amanda received a gift and a small bonus as an expression of our appreciation for the fine job that they do. Thanks to all of you who contributed to the holiday bonus fund.

 French Program

Ms. Francoise Delhalle will provide a French program on Friday, January 18, 2013, at noon.

 Spanish Program

On February 1, 2013, there will be a Spanish program at noon.  More information to follow.

 Snow Policy

When Shawnee Mission School District closes for bad weather, La Causerie will also be closed. Please listen to the list of school closings on television and radio or check the district’s website, http://www.smsd.org/.

Shop Amazon.com and Support La Causerie

You can continue to help support La Causerie (at no extra cost to you!) when you shop online at Amazon.com.  To support La Causerie you must access Amazon through any of our Amazon.com links at www.lacauserie.org.  In return for the promotion we give them on our site, they send us a small percentage of their profit. Every little bit helps us to keep your membership fees low.

Snack Sign-Up

Please remember that members donate the snacks and treats.  If you are interested in volunteering snacks, there is a sign up sheet for Friday mornings in the Social Room. You will not be expected to provide for all students, as three or four other members will contribute too. Thanks in advance to those members for signing up to bring snacks and treats.  La Causerie provides the coffee and tea and we ask for donations to help cover the beverage costs, which are not allotted in the La Causerie budget.  All contributions are appreciated.
