Annual Business Meeting & Spring Fête
Our Annual Business Meeting will be held on Friday, April 18 at 11 a.m. No classes will be held at 11 a.m. The meeting will be immediately followed by our Spring Fête at noon.
We hope you will plan to attend this meeting as important business will take place. We will elect new officers for the year ahead (see proposed slate below). Plus, we will thank teachers and outgoing board members for their contributions to La Causerie.
For the party, members are asked to bring a dish to be shared with the group. Finger foods are best, including hors d’oeuvres, snacks, nibbles, desserts. Food with an international flair is especially welcome. We will provide drinks, plates, napkins, utensils and cups.
The following slate of officers has been proposed by a nominating committee led by Linda Lyon:
President Dalene Bradford
1st Vice President (Membership Chair) Judith Walter
2nd Vice President (Social Chair) Jeff Piehler (co-chair)
Carol Cowden (co-chair)
Secretary Judy Pearlstein
Assistant Sec’y (Newsletter) Paula Kartus
Treasurer Inez Pennington
Assistant Treasurer (Textbook Chair) Joan Daniels
Do you have foreign language books, tapes, CDs that you no longer use? Somebody else at La Causerie might enjoy having them, so consider placing them in the annual used book sale.
The sale will take place during the Annual Meeting and Spring Fête on April 18th. Bring a book or two, mark each item in pencil with your name and the price you want for it.
We’ll prominently place these on a table on April 18th and members can shop at their leisure. As usual, the selling price will be divided equally between the seller and La Causerie. If you have questions, call Jan Cohen at 816-942-5433.
The Kansas City Jubilee Film Festival takes place April 16-20 in Westport, celebrating independent films made in Kansas City—and around the world. This year’s festival features international content and films from more than 14 countries including Denmark, Tibet, Australia, Mexico, Argentina, South Korea, and New Zealand. An easy way to catch a group of foreign films is through a program category called “World Cinema” that is offered on Thursday, April 12 at 5:45 p.m. at the Tivoli Cinemas and repeated again on Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Westport Coffeehouse Theater.
Another international focus comes through a program that features the “Best Of” Toronto International Film Festival. For details and the full schedule of movies visit www.kcjubilee.org .
Our last day of classes is May 9. Since we have many new members this year we thought it might be a good idea to mention how registration is handled over the summer. First, the board has to finalize teacher contracts and class schedules. Then the information is posted on our website and registration begins online. You can anticipate registration beginning in August. For more details attend the Annual Meeting on April 18th.
